So, you’ve purchased a Thule
Wingbar Evo and now you’re ready to embark on your next adventure, but before you do you’ll need to install your new
roof rack. In this guide we will cover installing the
Thule Wingbar Evo using the
Thule Evo clamp (7105 foot pack).
Please note: in order to successfully and safely secure your roof bars to your car you will need the correct fitting components. These components usually include both a
foot pack and a
fitting kit. You can find out which components are required for your exact vehicle make and model using our roof bar guide below. Some accessories may be installed onto the bar even with the fill strips in place.
Filling in the top side of the bar
With your
roof bar you will find two rubber fill strips. These are designed to fill the channel atop of the
Wingbar when no roof accessories have been installed. Filling in the channel will ensure the
Wingbar’s aerodynamic design works properly: disturbing airflow and reducing noise.
Labelling the feet
With both your
fitting kit and your
foot pack you will find a set of paper instructions. We advise you read over these first before attempting to fit your
roof bar. Within the instructions of your foot pack you will find four stickers. You will need to use these to label each foot so that each one can be positioned correctly on the vehicle. Once you have labelled all four feet, check your instructions leaflet to find the corresponding components that are to be attached to each foot. The components will be numbered so that you can easily indentify them. For example, the back right foot may require components labelled 1 and 2, whilst the front left foot may require components 3 and 4.
Fitting the feet onto the bar
On the underside of the
Thule Wingbar you will find a track with a slide-able measuring scale which can be adjusted to fit your vehicle. On your instructions you will find the number you need to set the scale to, to secure the
foot pack to the Wingbar. Once you have adjusted the scale to the number required, you can then slide the foot onto the track. On the foot you will find a lever. Once pressed in, the lever will push out a small component which will help the foot slide easily onto the track. Once the lever is released, the foot will then stay in place. Once you have slid the foot onto the track there may be space left between the foot and the end of the roof bar. You will need to fill in this space using the rubber fill strip provided. Cut the strip to size using standard household scissors. Once the foot is secured in place and you have filled in any space between the foot and the end of the bar, you can now fit the end cap onto the bar. Following these steps will ensure your W
ingbar helps to control airflow for a smooth, quiet ride.
Opening the end cap
The end cap on the
Thule Wingbar is designed to lift so that accessories can still be loaded without removing it. To lift the end cap simply flip it upwards using the thumb, the cap’s top will come to a stop at 180 degrees.
Attaching the Wingbar to the vehicle
Now the Wingbar is fully assembled it is time to attach it to your car. Before you do, make sure your vehicle is both clean and dry. You don’t want to trap any dirt under the foot of the roof bar. Check the instructions provided to place the front bar at in the required position. You will need to measure the distance from the perimeter of the front windscreen. To place the bar onto your car stand at one side of your vehicle and gently lay the roof bar across the roof, allowing the foot to slightly overhang the opposite side. The next step is to align the foot and the door frame bracket with the appropriate contours of the roof. The instructions will include a diagram of how this should look. Once everything is in place, use the tightening tool provided with your foot pack to secure each side. The tool includes a torque indicator to prevent over tightening. To attach the rear bar, measure the required distance from the front bar which will also be found in the instructions leaflet. Keep measuring as you adjust the bar into place and always before tightening.
Anti theft
To help prevent your roof bar from being stolen you may want to install a lockable cover on your roof bar. The cover contains a small lock cylinder which is secured with a key.
Check that both roof bars are secure and safe by giving them a firm but not forceful waggle on each side.
Your roof bar should now be secure and ready to load!
