The ongoing pandemic has affected all of us in many different ways, and for you adventurous types among us it may feel as though your wings have been clipped. However, there are still many ways you can quench your thirst for adventure, even if current restrictions don’t allow you to go much further than the perimeter of your back garden. So whether you’re under a local lockdown or not we’re going to share with you five different ways you can explore your adventurous side without putting yourself and others at risk.
Plan your Dream Adventure
We all have at least one place in the world that we’d really like to visit, but life often gets in the way of our more adventurous plans. At the moment, travel restrictions may be preventing you from visiting your dream destination, but that’s all the more reason to start planning for when you can! • Work out a budget
Start with a budget and a savings plan of how much you need for your dream adventure and how long it will take you to save. Make sure to plan for all expenses from travel to equipment and everything in between.
• Create a vision board
Create a vision board and put it somewhere you can see every day to keep you inspired. Cover it with images of your dream travel destination and inspiring quotes to keep you motivated. Looking at your vision board every day will help to give you hope and a clear, definite goal to work towards.
• Create an Itinerary
If you really want to envision your dream adventure you’ll need to get into the nitty-gritty! Create a list of everything you want to do when you get there. Research the area and find out what the locals like to do. Seek the advice of other tourists who have visited the destination before and ask for tips on planning a trip.
Camp in Your Garden
If you can’t go to the campsite, bring the campsite to you!
Bought some new camping gear recently that you haven’t had chance to use yet? Don’t wait any longer! A back garden campout is the perfect opportunity to put your new gadgets and gizmos to the test. Pack your rucksack as if you were going on an expedition and head to the garden!
This idea is for avid campers who really miss the connection to nature that comes with camping. It’s also a fantastic idea to if you have had a holiday or a trip cancelled this year. It’s something that people of all ages can try including families with small children.
Try a New Outdoor Sport
If there’s anything we’ve learnt after months of restrictions it’s that life’s too short to put off doing things we enjoy! So if there’s a sport out there that you’ve always wanted try but have just never gotten round to pursuing it, then why not give it a go this year? If current restrictions won’t allow you to get started right away then research what classes are available near you under normal conditions. Research what equipment you might need or join a forum together with fellow newbies. Whether its kayaking, white water rafting or a simple game of football, remember – you’re never too old to give something new a try!
Set Yourself a Challenge
Believe it or not, you can still feed your sense of adventure without going on one. Adventure and challenge are two words that go hand in hand; by pushing yourself to meet bigger and more ambitious goals (whatever they may be) you will naturally feel more adventurous. Start off as big or as small as you like… perhaps you have always wanted to run a marathon, write a book or even just wake up one hour earlier? Whatever it is, push yourself a little further out of your comfort zone each day until you achieve it!
Do Something That Scares You
Get your adrenaline pumping by trying at least one thing that scares you each month. We all have fears: public speaking, spiders, heights etc. and it’s said the best way to handle them is to face them head on. Start off small and do the thing you’re least scared of first, working yourself up to something that’s a real challenge! You might feel like you’ve just gotten off a rollercoaster afterwards but you’ll also feel more confident, self assured and capable.
