Yes, summer has officially ended, but that doesn’t mean the joy of camping should too! It’s a shame to think that many campers don’t even consider the activity during the autumn months, but they’re truly missing out! There are still months of outdoor fun left to enjoy this year. We think that camping during autumn may even be more enjoyable than that of the warmer months, and we’re going to show you why.
1. The scenery is truly picturesque
Revel in the natural beauty that autumn brings. Anywhere you choose to set up camp will be home to the welcome changes of autumn; gorgeous red and orange leaves will decorate the trees and ground, and provide a satisfying crunch under foot. If you look carefully, you may also notice berries and interesting fungi to be seen too.
2. You’ll appreciate the comfort of your tent or caravan much more
No harsh cold weather, but no scorching heat, autumn sits right in the weather sweet spot. It’s just warm enough to enjoy the great outdoors without piling on layers of fleece layers and just cool enough to create a snug and cosy den inside your tent. Nothing beats the comforting and tranquil glow of a fireside either, and the autumn climate creates the perfect setting to roast a few marshmallows as the sun goes down.
3. It’s so peaceful
Most campsites begin to quieten down at this time of year, so you’ll find your camping trip may be a lot more peaceful. There’s also something about that crisp autumn air that makes everything seem so much more serene.
4. You'll Get some much needed vitamin D
SAD is a real depression disorder that affects a huge amount of the population each year. Symptoms of low mood, low energy and even more severe symptoms such as feelings of worthlessness and despair begin to appear during autumn, and can worsen into January and February. A combination of factors can lead to the cause of seasonal affective disorder, one of which is the increased production of melatonin (the sleepy hormone) caused by a lack of natural light. More Exposure to natural daylight can be a helpful remedy if you’re suffering from SAD, while a few days of outdoor activity can help to increase our serotonin levels, and reset our body clock.
5.
You'll Have a well deserved break
Camping can provide a much needed break from the hustle and bustle of daily life. Summer evenings are typically spent making the most of the warm weather, but as our evenings become darker our time is more so spent indoors. End the monotonous dark evening routine by taking a trip. Camping is a budget friendly holiday and requires little travelling (you may find many campsites are in fact right on your doorstep).
