Towbar MOT Checks

Here at Peter Bowman Towing Centre we offer a free of charge test for towbar wiring. We can quickly assess if your towbar will pass your MOT. We know all types of towbar wiring and will endevor to help you out if needed. We stock a wide range of towbar spares should they be needed.
 
We would prefer that your vehicle is booked in for a check. if you happen to be passing feel free to call in and if someone is available we will check it there and then.
 
If you require the towbar itself checking the vehicle will need to be booked in and there will be a charge. Towbars can have alot of things that need to be checked and this could take sometime.

What will be tested on your MOT?

Towbars have been checked since 2009 for the following things;

• Towbar for corrosion 
• Towbar security 
• All securing items (nut and bolts)  
• The area around the towbar for corrosion and damage. 
• Towbar sockets must be secure 
• Towball must not be excessively worn 
• Detachable Towbar must have less than 3mm play 
• Detachable Towbar mechanisms must engage properly 

From January 2012 the following will be added;

• Towbar wiring (all legal road lighting must be working)
